Gary Mart Hall, beloved husband, father, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on September 16, 2023, in Iowa City, Iowa.
A visitation for Gary will take place on September 23, 2023, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Pierschbacher Funeral Home in Knoxville, Iowa. This will be followed by a memorial service with military honors at the same location at 11 AM.
Friends, family, and all whose lives were touched by Gary are invited to pay their respects and celebrate his remarkable life during these events. A private burial will take place on a later date at Graceland Cemetery in Knoxville.
Memorials may be made in his memory to his family or to the Marion County Humane Society.
Gary was born on January 28, 1941, in Iowa City, Gary was the son of Creel Fortune and Ruby Pope. Gary’s lifelong dedication to serving others was reflected in his various roles throughout his life. After graduating from high school, he proudly served in the United States Army.
Following his military service, Gary started at Fortune’s in Knoxville, working as a bartender. He became employed at 3M in 1979 and worked there until his retirement in 2001. On October 31, 1970, Gary was united in marriage to Linda Dursky. Their marriage resulted in a blended family with children: Tim, Tarene, Vickie, Jeff, Brian, and Ritchie.
In his younger years, Gary developed a passion for playing pool and became known for his exceptional skills. There were few opponents who could match his talent on the table.
Additionally, Gary adored his loyal companion Polly Ann, his beloved dog who brought joy into his life. He also found solace tending to his cars, ensuring they were always kept immaculately clean. He also loved fishing, hunting for mushrooms, and bowling. Gary’s greatest enjoyment was spending time with his beloved family.
Gary’s memory will forever be treasured by those he leaves behind. He is survived by his loving wife, Linda Hall. His children: Tim (Amelia) Hall, Tarene (Dean) Rood, Vickie (Scott) Mcginnis, Jeff Koplin, Brian (Melissa) Hall, and Ritchie Zellmer; and many loving grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Sonja (Roger) Casal, Sue (Ray) Christiansen; and brother-in-law, Roy Bingham.
