Funeral services for Lloyd Colwell Goad, age 65 of Knoxville, will be held on Tuesday, December
21, 1993 at 11:00 a.m. from Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Knoxville.
Officiating
will be Pastor Robert Wessels. Interment will be in Olive Chapel Cemetery in Marion
County.
Lloyd died on Saturday, December 18, 1993, at Knoxville Area Community Hospital.
Memorial contributions may be made to Olive Chapel Cemetery Fund.
Colwell Goad, 65, Knoxville, died on Dec. 18, 1993, at the Knoxville Area Community
Hospital, service was on Dec. 21, 1993, at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Knoxville.
Burial was at the Olive Chapel Cemetery in Marion County. Pastor Robert Wessels
officiated at the service.
Music was provided by Linda Goad. Pallbearers were Artie
Vander Hoek, Wayne Bevis, Tom Tucker, Carl Boat, Denny Bachman, and Bill Peters.
Honorary pallbearers were Bob Jones, Ralph Dyer, Clay Barnett, Marge Andrews, Dick
Hopkins, Bob DeMoss, Jack Sullivan, and Keith Van Hemert.
Lloyd was born in Oct.
14, 1928, in rural Knoxville, the son of E.R. (Dick) and Sylvia Allen Goad. As a
child, he lived on various farms around Marion County before finally settling in
Knoxville at the age of 15.
He was a student at Knoxville High School where he was
very active in school activities. He was very proud of his football career at K.H.S.
and 1993-4 Journal—Express, Knoxville IA the high school yearbook described L.C.
(Elsie) as a big, monstrous tackle weighing in at 160 pounds while under the guidance
of Vance Wymore. Lloyd was offered a scholarship to play football for Central College
in Pella. The offer was rescinded after the first semester, due to the return of
World War II veterans to the college campuses. He found employment as a “Mudder”
for the crew that was drilling core samples to find a suitable location to build
Red Rock Dam.
He married Loretta Jean Visser on June 6, 1948. Lloyd was an
avid sportsman and enjoyed fishing the Des Moines River and hunting the area. On
Dec. 2, 1962, he downed a trophy whitetail buck ‘while bow hunting in Monroe County.
This 14-point buck held the world record from 1965 to 1967 and still remains the
largest whitetail buck killed in Iowa.
During his life, he worked for Eugene Husted
as a heavy equipment operator and as a serviceman for the Goodyear Store in Knoxville.
In the fall of 1959, he opened the Champlin Station at 402 East Main Street in Knoxville.
He continued to operate the station until March 1, 1976. He was employed by the
US Army Corps of Engineers, Knoxville City Parks Department, and Building Engineers.
He accepted employment with the Knoxville City Water Department in September 1978,
where he remained employed until his death. Additionally, Lloyd served his community
as a volunteer on the Knoxville Township Fire Department from 1963 to 1987. He was
preceded in death by his parents and his wife.
Survivors include two brothers, Henry
Goad of Longmont, Colo., and Jerry Goad of Marengo; two sons, Jody Goad of Moline,
Ill. and Dennis Lloyd of Knoxville; two daughters, Christa Lynn Phillips of Knoxville
and Julie Anne Lovell of Kansas City, Mo; and 11 grandchildren. Memorials may be
made to the Olive Chapel Cemetery Fund.
