Lila Pearl Carter was born on February 17, 1929 in Knoxville, Iowa, the daughter of Walter and Opal (Shotwell) Sparks.

Lila grew up in Knoxville and graduated from Knoxville High School.

She was united in marriage to Gloyd Carter on June 10, 1948. She spent her entire life in Knoxville, except for 2 years that she lived in California while Gloyd was in the service.

She had worked at the overall factory, Bellamy Phone company and for the City Clerk, but most of her career was spent working in the cafeteria for the Knoxville School District.

Lila had been a member of the Christian Church and the Red Hat Society. She enjoyed making ceramics and fleece tie blankets. She collected Precious Moments figurines and cookbooks.

Lila was also a wonderful cook and enjoyed cooking. In her younger years, she and Gloyd loved to go camping.

Lila passed away on Friday, September 27, 2013 at her home at the age of 84 years. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Gloyd in 1996; sister, Karen Angove; and infant sister, Dorothy.

Those left to cherish her memory include her son, Alan (Teresa) Carter of Dallas, IA; grandchildren, Jennifer (Josh) Coop of Melcher, IA and Erich (Holly) Carter of Dallas, IA; great grandchildren, Isabella, Chloe and Abigail Carter and Mileana Coop; step-great grandchild, Joshua Coop; sister, Carmila Onstank of Knoxville; brother, Richard Sparks, of Knoxville; and uncle, Richard (Vera) Sparks of Knoxville.

A visitation will begin at 10 a.m. on Thursday, October 3 with family present from 5 to 7 p.m. at Williams Funeral Home in Knoxville.

Per her wishes, Lila was cremated and burial will be in Graceland Cemetery at a later date. For those desiring, memorial contributions may be made to the Knoxville Fire & Rescue Department.
