Donald Lewis Job, 74, of Knoxville, died Thursday, Dec. 19, 2002 at his winter home
on Marco Island, Florida.
The body was cremated and his life was celebrated at a
private family memorial service on Marco Island, Fla.
Lew was born and raised in
Knoxville, the son of Eldon and Bernice K. Job. After attending college he enlisted
in the United States Marine Corp and served in Korea, receiving two purple hearts
during his tour of duty.
He lived with his wife, Nancy, in Lewiston, Idaho for five
years where his three children were born. He moved his family back to Knoxville
in 1959 and began his career as a banker at the Iowa State Savings Bank.
While working
at the bank he enjoyed marketing it. He was mentioned in Forbes magazine as a banker
who would walk around the square and help unload a truck. Community boards that
he served on were the Knoxville Industrial Development Council, the Knoxville Community
Hospital Board, the Knoxville police retirement board, The Sprint Car Hall of Fame,
Rotary, and the American Bankers Association.
Lew was instrumental in launching
the first bank debit transactional machine in the state of Iowa. Among other projects
he started in Knoxville were the Skate Pit, Septembers, Painted Rocks development
and was the father of the Sole Survivor Golf Tournament. Lew was a people person
with a zest for life.
Hobbies included bungee jumping, fire walking, hot air ballooning,
hunting, fishing and boating. He also enjoyed the Iowa Hawkeye's football program.
From time to time Lew performed with the Joie Chitwood thrill show as the human
battering ram.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Nancy; a daughter, Sally
Job of Marco Island, Fla.; two sons and daughters-in-law, David and Marinke Job
of Juneau, Alaska and W. Alex and Jeannie Job of Clearwater, Fla.; two granddaughters,
Madeline and Jillian; his mother, Bernice K. Crane of Knoxville; a brother and sister-in-law,
Ned and Julia Job of Knoxville; a sister, Judy Fee of Knoxville; two nephews, Stu
Job and wife Holli of Knoxville and Curt Fee and wife Troy; two nieces, Susan Hollingshead
and husband Jamie of Knoxville and Amy Wesner and husband Tom; and 12 grandnieces
and nephews.
Memorials may be made in Lew's name to the Knoxville Public Library.
