Funeral services for Leland Cecil Robinson, 72, of Knoxville, who died February 19, at the Knoxville Area Community Hospital, were held February 22, 1997, at the
First United Methodist Church in Knoxville.
Burial was at Breckenridge Cemetery.
The Rev. Martha Ward officiated at the services. Music was provided by Geof Shultz,
pianist, and Katie Davis, soloist and guitarist. Pallbearers were Mike May, Willie Ladd, John Sedlock, and David Robinson.
Leland was born June 27, 1924, in Knoxville, the son of David S. and Bertha L. Holmes Robinson. He attended school in Knoxville. He served in the U.S. Army as a field
lineman and was involved in the Rhineland and Central Europe Campaigns. He was
awarded two bronze stars. He was honorably discharged in February 1946. After the
war, he worked for the Bellamy Phone Company.
He was united in marriage to Marie
Woody on November 22, 1947, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. He retired from
the phone company in 1981 after 32 years of service. After his retirement, Lee and
Stan Kimm formed a phone repair service, which they operated until 1995. He was
a member of John Myers Post #3519, V.F.W., the First United Methodist Church, and
the Pioneer Telephone Club.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers,
Paul and Bob; three sisters, Wilma Sherlock, Lorraine May, and Darlene Bubon; and
a grandchild.
He is survived by his wife; two daughters, Kitty Shepherd of Knoxville,
and Anna Sloan of Bussey; two sisters, Hester Chisholm of Salt Lake City, Utah,
and Norma Jean Sedlock of Moline, Ill.; and seven grandchildren.
Memorials may be
made to the Breckenridge Cemetery Association, and the First United Methodist Church
Radio Ministry. Arrangements were made by Bybee and Davis Funeral Home in Knoxville.
