Lawrence John Mishler was born March 26, 1926 in Des Moines son of John W. Mishler and Marie K (Quinn) Mishler.
He graduated from Knoxville High
School and entered the United States Army . After Larry, was discharged from the
service, he worked for the railroad for a brief period of time.
On May 9, 1947,
Larry was united in marriage to Beatrice Schippers at St. Anthony's Catholic Church.
Larry worked as an accountant for the Knoxville V.A. Medical Center for many years,
retiring in 1983. Larry' liked to stay busy and during his retirement he worked
" for Weaver's Clothing; Pleasantville Country' Club and First Realty.
He was active
in many organizations throughout his life, including Rotary Knights of Columbus,
St. Anthony Church, Pine Knolls Country Club and the Senior Center. He also served
on the Knoxville City Council and was an umpire and referee for many years. Larry
was recognized as Knoxville's Mr. Official in 1975, Man of the Year by the Chamber
of Commerce in 1986, 1985 Humanitarian recipient from the American Heart Association
and 1993 Holiday. Lighting award recipient.
Bea passed away in 2001 and on Sept.
5, 2003, Larry married Velma Schleier at St. Anthony Catholic Church. Larry loved
his family; he always made Christmas special and they enjoyed taking cruises together.
Larry passed away Sunday, May 18, 2008, at his home at the age of 82. He was preceded
in death by his parents; brother, Joseph; sister, Margaret Hayw and his first wife,
Bea. Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Velma; children, Christopher
(Betty); Mishler of Glenville, Minn., William (Janice) Mishler; of Tiffin, Iowa,
Susan (Jerry) Jones of Tama; sisters, JoAnn Noack of Jonesville, Mich., Geraldine
Lynch of Des Moines; grandchildren, John. Jones, Daryl Woodward, Matthew Mishler,
Laura Mishler, Margaret Mishler; great-grandchildren, Brianna and Kirsten Jones.
Mass of Christian Burial was held at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Knoxville, Thursday,
May 22, with Father Steven Ebel officiating. Internment was in Graceland Cemetery,
