Kevin Wayne Myers age 54 of Des Moines and formerly of Knoxville, passed away Sunday,
September 30, 2012, at the Iowa Health Hospice Taylor House of Des Moines.
Kevin was born on February 24, 1958, in Knoxville to Dr. Richard “Mick” Wayne and
Marjorie Lea (Van Driel) Myers. In school, Kevin was very active in sports throughout
grade school, Jr. High, and high school. He graduated from Knoxville High School,
Class of 1976. After high school, Kevin attended Wayne State University and played
football until transferred to the University of Iowa, where he also played football
until he was injured.
After college, Kevin’s occupation was sales. Kevin mainly sold cars for thirty years
in Iowa and California until attending DMACC and graduating with a truck driving
degree in 2008. For 5 years before Kevin’s illness, he was a truck driver.
Kevin was very close with his family and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and playing sports,
particularly golf. He was also a huge Hawkeye fan.
In May of 1985, Kevin and Kelly Lynn Carrigan were united in marriage in Las Vegas,
Nevada. They were blessed with one son, Joshua Wayne, who is currently on active duty
in the U.S. Navy. Kevin and Kelly later divorced.
Kevin is survived by his son, Joshua Wayne Myers, and fiancée Joanna Harlow of Des
Moines; his mother, Marjorie Myers of Knoxville; and two brothers, Brad Myers of
Chariton and Todd C. Myers and wife Teresa of Knoxville. Kevin is also survived
by three nieces, Nicole, Kendall, and Katy Myers; and one nephew, Ben Myers. He was
preceded in death by his father Dr. Richard “Mick” Myers.
A celebration of life memorial service will be held on Wednesday, October 3, 2012
at 11:00 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church of Knoxville with Rev. Josyph Andrews
officiating. A private family burial will be held at Graceland Cemetery prior to services.
Visitation will be held from 2 to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 2, 2012, at the Winfield
Funeral Home of Knoxville. Kevin’s family will be present from 6 to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday
evening.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to Save Our Stadium “S.O.S.”
