Kerry Vern McCombs, 56, of Boone died of a respiratory ailment Tuesday, May 1, 2001 at home. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. today at First United Methodist Church in Boone.
Cremation will follow services. The burial of the cremains will be at a later date at Linwood Park Cemetery in Boone.
Mr. McCombs was born, Aug 28, 1944, in Knoxville and had lived there until moving to Boone in 1972. He had worked as a truck driver for Hopkins Trucking in Boone and was a Coast Guard veteran. He enjoyed woodworking.
He is survived by his wife, Dixie (Smith); two sons, Mike and Kelly, both of Boone; three daughters, Misty Newman of Parker, Colo., Ken Miller of Kansas City, Mo., and Kristy Stuckey of Evansville, Ind.; his mother, Alma McCombs, and a brother, Kirk, both of Knoxville; a sister, Elaine Mick of Ottumwa; and six grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 9 a.m. until the time of service today at the church.
Schroeder Memorial Chapel in Boone is handling arrangements.
