Katheryne Anne (Metcalf) Visser was born on Jan. 21, 1923, in Pleasantville to William Ellis and June Hanna Metcalf. She graduated from Knoxville High School in 1939, then she received her teaching certificate from Central College in Pella.
Kathy married Robert Visser in 1946 and settled in Marion County to farm. In 1967
they purchased McCord Motor Lodge in Knoxville. Kathy sold the motel in 1979.
Kathy started the Knoxville Nationals Queen Contest in 1975 and continued to coordinate
the event for 31 years. She enjoyed many activities with family and friends. Kathy
relished her time at the Knoxville Raceway where she could be found every Saturday
night in the infield with her extended family.
She also enjoyed golfing, bowling, and attending the Kansas City Chiefs games. Kathy
served many years as a board member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary 3519,
the Knoxville Hospital Auxiliary, and the Knoxville Racing Charitable Organization.
Kathy died at her home on March 2, 2007, at the age of 84.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Bob, and two sons, Bruce and
Carroll.
She is survived by one daughter, Jeneanne Visser (Nancy DeVore) of Grimes; one brother,
Stanton Metcalf (Betty) of Knoxville; her daughter-in-law, Sue Visser of Knoxville,
six grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; many other relatives and race family
too numerous to name.
Funeral services were held on March 8 at EvansMcCleery Funeral Home with Rev. Neil
Montz officiating.
The interment was in Graceland Cemetery.

Our Stadium (S.O.S.)
