Funeral services for Joseph M. Johnston, 69, Pleasantville, who died September 25, 1994 at his home, were September 28, 1994, at First Presbyterian Church in Knoxville.

Burial was at Graceland Cemetery in Knoxville.
The Reverend Ken MacLeod officiated at the services.

Music was provided by Jim Kidder. Pallbearers were Barry Griffith
Steve Guiter, Kay Harsin, Ned Job, Norm Milledge and Chuck Wooldridge.

Joseph was born on November 27, 1924, in Knoxville, the son of Joe M. and Mary Timmons Hays Johnston. He attended school in Knoxville and graduated from Kemper Military School in Booneville, Mo. in 1942.

On March 27, 1948, he was united in marriage to Joann Walker in Lancaster, Wisc. Joseph received his Juris Doctor Degree from Drake Law School in 1950. He was a life long resident of Marion County and practiced law in Knoxville for 44 years.

He had served as city attorney, was a member of the Marion County Conservation Board for 20 years and was a trustee for the Community National Bank in Knoxville. He also served in the United States Army during World War II.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Isabel Hays. Survivors include his wife of Pleasantville; four daughters, Linda Pierce of Venice, Fla., Susan Hicks of Knoxville, Debra Springer of Marine On St. Croix, Minn. and Nancy Toll of Hudson, Wisc.; one sister Martha Krohn of Des Moines and nine grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the Hospice of Central Iowa.
