Johanna “Joni” Lynn Peterson was born July 6th, 1956 in Oskaloosa, IA to Adeline (Espeland) and Floyd Pope.

She graduated from Knoxville High School in 1975. She was united in marriage to Allen Peterson in 1976 and moved to Titonka, Iowa where she later had 2 children, Kristina “Tina” and Jordan.

In 1992, she moved to Algona, IA with her kids where she worked as a bookkeeper for Mcdonald’s and part-time at Rainbow Skateland. She then met Stan Eimers, with whom she spent the last 28 years of her life.

In her younger years, she enjoyed league bowling and volleyball. She was a part of these teams, with a group of friends, for many years. Joni had an infectious smile, laugh, and personality that drew many friends in her last job as a welder at Snap-On Tools; where she retired in 2021 after working there for 16 years.

She was a member of the Snap-On Relay for Life team where she loved to put together silent auction baskets, make baked goods, and help plan, other fundraisers, to benefit cancer research.

It was during this time that she was also diagnosed with stage 4 ovarian cancer on April 9, 2015. She spent nearly 7.5 years battling cancer, undergoing over 100 chemotherapy treatments, several surgeries, 2 brain tumor removals, so many scans, and x-rays, and 3 terribly painful radiation procedures to her brain AKA Gamma Knife.

Joni lived for her children and grandchildren and fought so hard to be around for them, spending much of her time with her 4 grandchildren.

She also enjoyed riding motorcycles, attending her kid’s and grandkids’ sports and activities, shopping for anyone other than herself, crafting, and gardening.

If you were a friend of Joni’s you were a friend for life, she kept in touch with a group of high school friends regularly until the very end.
Joni is survived by her partner, Stan Eimers; two children, Tina (Matt) Hubbard and Jordan Peterson; grandchildren, Elaina, Elton, Steele, and Elyse Hubbard; mother, Adeline Pope; siblings, Marcia (Darrell) Allen, Danny (Teresa) Pope; brother-in-law, Bob Steele, and many nephews, cousins, other family members, and friends.

Joni was preceded in death by her father, Floyd Pope, and sister, Alvina Steele.

Memorials may be made in Joni’s name to the Kossuth County Cancer Support Foundation, which has provided much support to her over her cancer journey.
