Services for John Fred Kool, 80, of Knoxville, who died of a heart ailment on Jan. 5, 1993, in Cape Coral, Ha., were Jan. 8, 1993, at the Bybee and Davis Funeral Home in Knoxville. Burial was at Graceland Cemetery in Knoxville.
The Rev. Martha Ward officiated at the service. Music was provided by Jim Kidder.
Pallbearers were Jim Akins, Merle Kline, Rick Mortenson, Bethel Van Klootwyk, Ed Vander Kamp, Glen Vander Kamp and Roy Vander Veer. Honorary pallbearers were Don Agan, Don Dixon, and Don King.
John was born on Feb. 10, 1912, in Cordova, the son of Arie and Martha DenBurger Kool.
He graduated from Knoxville High School in the Class of 1932. John served in the United States Army during World War II in Burma and Indian countries.
He was married to Faye Wynn on Aug. 17, 1934, and the couple always made their home in Knoxville.
John was employed by Strasburgers Clothing in Knoxville for a number of years and in 1952, he joined the sales force of Hamilton Manufacturing Company and he sold and installed laboratory fixtures for schools around the country.
He retired in 1979 and led an active life up until his death.
John was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Knoxville and the Knoxville Kiwanis Club and Baty-Tucker Post No. 168 American Legion.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife on Feb. 15, 1980; two brothers, C.A. Kool and Andrew Kool; three sisters, Anna, Mae, and Alice.
Survivors include his daughter, Mary Kool; and his good friend, Eva Smith.
