John Edward King Sr., 76, of 1448 56th St. died of pneumonia Monday, Thursday, June 11, 1997, at Urbandale Health Care Center. Services will be at 2 p.m. at Windsor Heights Lutheran Church, of which he was a member. The burial will be in Glendale Cemetery.
Mr. King was born in 1920, in Knoxville, the son of William King (1887 – 1961), and Alma Elizabeth Smith King (1891 – 1987), and moved to Des Moines in 1946. He retired as a meat cutter with Date's Foods and was a US. Navy veteran of World War II
Survivors include his wife, Marilyn; four sons, John Jr. of Johnston, David, and Bruce, both of Urbandale, and Thomas of Kansas City, Kan.; a brother, Howard of Des Moines; a sister, Annabelle Philpott of Spring Arbor, Mich.; and eight grandchildren.
Friends may call after 3 p.m. today at Westover Funeral Home, where the family will be present from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to his church.
