Funeral services for John Edgar Derringer, 59, of Oskaloosa, who died on Friday, November 16, 2001, at Mahaska County Hospital in Oskaloosa, will be held on Wednesday, November 21, at Williams Funeral Home.
Rev. John Allard will officiate at the services. Music will be provided by Jim Kidder, organist and Barbara Marvelli, vocalist.
Interment will be at Greenwood Cemetery in Marion County. Casketbearers will be Donnie, Mike, Paul and Terry Derringer, Inismet Thomas and Terry Whitten. Honorary casketbearers will be Brian and Carl Thomas.
John was born on June 5, 1942, in Knoxville. He was the son of Blanche Almetia (Wilson) and Oce Edgar Derringer. He attended Knoxville schools.
He married Linda June Dunsmoor. To this union four children were born.
John spent most of his life in the Knoxville and Oskaloosa area. He worked construction and helped to build Red Rock Dam where he was known as a dependable, hard worker. After leaving construction, he worked at Pella Corporation from which he retired after 25 years. He was a member of the Moose Lodge and the Eagles.
He enjoyed watching sports, auto racing, and helping out his friends and neighbors. He especially enjoyed the times spent traveling and visiting his children and grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father.
He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Rodney and Lori Derringer of Washington, D.C.; three daughters and a son-in-law, Marci and Dan Rinehart of Virginia Beach, Va., Heidi Derringer of Fayetteville, Ark. And Kendall Derringer of Independence, Mo.; his mother, Blanche Almetia Wilson of Mercer, Mo.; six grandchildren; three brothers, Dennis Derringer of Eddyville, Don Derringer of Pella, and David Parker of Pella; and a sister, Kathleen Thomas of Des Moines.
Memorials may be made to his family.
