Miss Mary Ellen MacKay, daughter of Mrs. Robert MacKay of Pictou, Nova Scotia and Mr. John Casey of Des Moines, son of Mr. and Mrs. W.J. Casey of Knoxville, were united in marriage Aug 1, in Chicago.
The Rev. Asa Turner of the Edgewater Presbyterian church performed the ceremony.
The bride was attended by a former classmate at the University of Missouri, Miss Signe Freestrom of Columbus, O., while Mr. Casey was attended by Mrs. Arlen J. Wilson of the Northern Trust company of Chicago, formerly of Knoxville.
Mr. Casey and his bride will reside in Des Moines, the former being a member of the editorial staff of The Register.
Mrs. Mary MacKAY CASEY, 80, 644 Chautaupua Ave, died Tuesday at her
home after a sudden illness. She was the wife of John H. CASEY,
long-time University of Oklahoma School of Journalism faculty
member.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the First Presbyterian Church
with Dr. E. Kenneth FEAVER officiating. Entombment will be in the
IOOF Mausoleum directed by Mayes Funeral Directors.
Mrs. CASEY was born Feb 22, 1893, in Earltown, Nova Scotia, and came
to Norman in 1927 from Columbia, MO. She held a bachelor’s degree in
journalism from the University of Missouri.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and was a past
president of the Women’s Association of the church. She was also a
member of the League of Women Voters and the Wednesday Book Club and
was active in Democrat party affairs. She was a member of the 27
Club, a group formed in 1927 by women associated with OU.
Survivors in addition to her husband include three daughters, Mrs.
Catherine (RUSSELL D.) HEMENWAY, New York City, Mrs. Jody MARTIN 811 W. Imhoff
St., and Mary Ellen TURNER, Lexington, Mass., and five
grandchildren.
The family has designated the Mary Casey Memorial Fund at the First
Presbyterian Church as appropriate for memorial contributions.
