Joseph “Joe” Orville Adkins, age 58, died June 5, 2007, at the Ogden Manor in Ogden. His body has been cremated.
Memorial services will be held on June 30, at the Columbia United Methodist Church
at 1:30 p.m. with Pastor Brent Hanna officiating. The interment will be in Hayden Chapel Cemetery, rural Mahaska County.
Joe was born in Knoxville on Dec. 8, 1948, to Francis and Dolores (Nichols) Adkins.
He graduated from Knoxville High School in 1967. In his earlier years in Boone, Joe
worked at the Colonial House as a waiter. He later was employed at the Country Kitchen and then, as a waiter at Belluci Pizza House.
For the past two years, Joe was employed as a clerical aide in the Experience Works
Program at the Iowa Workforce Development Office in Boone. He also was a promoter
and announcer at several race tracks in Iowa and Missouri.
A member of the Masons, Joe was involved with DeMolay and was an Advisor in Boone
and received the Degree of Chevalier from the Order of DeMolay. He was a member
of the Scottish Rite.
From 1997 to 1998, Joe served as a Grand Musician for the Grand Lodge of Iowa Masons.
He was a former member of Mason’s Mt. Olive Lodge #303 of Ogden. Joe enjoyed computers
and playing the organ and piano. For several years, he served as an organist for the
Marion Street United Methodist Church.
Joe is preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include one brother, Richard Adkins, and his wife, Bonnie, of Knoxville.
Memorials may be given to the family to be used at their discretion.
