Wilma Arlowene (Hart) Hodges was born on February 16, 1921 in Knoxville, Iowa. She was
one of two daughters born to Dimmie Gregory and William Allen Hart. Arlowene grew
up in Knoxville and graduated with the Class of 1939 of Knoxville High School.
On
August 14, 1939 Wilma Arlowene Hart married her high school sweetheart, Harmon Leslie
Hodges in Nashua, Iowa at the Little Brown Church. To this union five children were
born.
After living in a variety of places, Arlowene moved to Davenport in 1971. She was
employed by the Davenport Community School District as secretary to the superintendent
until her retirement in 1996 at the age of 75.
Arlowene was a faithful member of St. John's United Methodist Church in Davenport.
In her spare time Arlowene enjoyed various types of sewing.
Needlework was her specialty, making a variety of items to share with her family
and friends.
Wilma Arlowene Hodges passed away at her home on Wednesday, May 23, 2007 at the
age of 86.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
Those left to mourn her passing are five children, Janet (Roy) McGinnis of Channahon,
IL, Joel (Pam) Hodges of Homosassa Springs, FL, Vicky (Doug) Nalley of Jeffersonville,
IN, Brian Hodges of Panama City, FL and Mark (Kim) Hodges of Grinnell; eight grandchildren;
nine great-grandchildren and one sister, Betty Hanna of Knoxville
Graveside services were held on Wednesday, May 30, at Graceland Cemetery in Knoxville,
with Pastor Art Hill officiating. Family members served as casket bearers.
