James W. Wolfe, 76, passed away Thursday, September 16, 2010 at Taylor House Hospice in Des Moines.
James was born November 20, 1933, to C. Reese and Magdaline Wolfe in Pershing, IA. He graduated from Knoxville High School in 1952, attended Graceland
College for one year and worked at Maytag in Newton, IA for four years.
After taking a 6-month linotype and printing course at the University of Iowa, he began his printing
career at Plain Talk Publishing in Des Moines where he operated a linotype printing
press for 10 years. As technology advanced to computers, he worked for 24 years
in the composing Department at Meredith, later Donnelly Corporation. After retiring
from Meredith Donnelly Corporation, Jim drove the Carlisle School bus and delivered
medications for Hammer Pharmacy.
Jim enjoyed his years as an assistant Cub and Boy Scout leader, little league baseball umpire, maintenance/yard work at church, and
printing of the church bulletins. Traveling and camping with his family brought
tremendous joy to Jim. He also enjoyed riding his scooter to have coffee with his
buddies at Hy Vee. He enjoyed attending all activities of his grandchildren. He was
a loving husband, father, brother, and grandfather.
Jim lived in Carlisle, IA for 45 years until moving to West Des Moines 5 years ago. Jim was a wonderful husband
and devoted family man. He lived a full and happy life and was blessed with a loving family and many close friends. Jim made a conscious decision to trust the Lord and
chose not to have any treatment for colon cancer and COPD. He met all of his goals in the last 13 months of his life.
James is survived by his beloved wife Joan of 55 years, son Steven Wolfe (Terri) of Indianola, IA; daughter Marianne Youngberg (Sheldon)
of Pocahontas, IA; and son Joseph Wolfe (Thu) of Mesa, AZ; two brothers, two sisters,
and seven grandchildren. James was preceded in death by his parents. Visitation is Monday from 5 to 8 p.m. at Peterson Funeral Home in Carlisle, IA.
Funeral Services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. in the United Methodist Church in Carlisle, IA.
