Jerald Heaberlin, 67, passed away April, 7, 2013, in Knoxville, Iowa. He was born April 12, 1945, in Knoxville, where he lived all of his life.
He graduated with the class of 1965. During high school, he was active in sports, especially track, and worked part-time at Hy-Vee.
Jerald proudly served four years in the U.S. Navy. Most of that time was aboard the U.S.S. Nitro. After his Navy discharge, he cut meat at Hy-Vee in Knoxville for thirty-one years until his retirement.
In 1972, Jerald married Barbara Butcher in Knoxville, where they continued to reside until his death.
They were blessed with two sons, Brad and his wife Abby of Columbia, Iowa, and Jeff of Knoxville. They were also blessed with three grandchildren, Cole, Emma, and Drew.
Jerald enjoyed his morning coffee and breakfast groups. After retirement, Jerald enjoyed many winters in Arizona with Barb plus Arizona friends, including a coffee group.
He was a member of the Baty Tucker Post 168 of the American Legion for many years and a member of the Draggins Car Club. He could be recognized around town driving his black 1941 Plymouth.
His favorite past times were spent watching sprint car races and going to car shows. His most enjoyment came from his family, especially the activities of his grandchildren.
Preceding Jerald in death was his father, Wayne Heaberlin; his step-father, J.D. Isley, Jr.; his brother, Dennis Isley; his sister, Terri Isley; and his father-in-law, Leo Butcher.
Surviving Jerald is his wife of 40 years, Barb; their two sons, Brad and wife Abby of Columbia, Iowa, and Jeff of Knoxville; their grandchildren, Cole, Emma, and Drew.
Jerald is also survived by his mother, LaVonne Isley of Hannibal, MO; his sister Colleen and husband Bill Fantz of Hannibal, MO; a nephew, Shane Fantz of Des Moines; a niece, Ashley Fantz of Atlanta, GA; and his mother-in-law, Mary Butcher of Knoxville; and many friends.
Funeral services for Jerald will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, April 11, 2013, at the First United Methodist Church of Knoxville. Burial with military honors will follow services at Graceland Cemetery of Knoxville.
Visitation for Jerald will begin at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, April 10, 2013, at the Winfield Funeral Home of Knoxville. Jerald’s family will be present from 5 to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday evening at the funeral home.
