James Norman Mart was born August 30, 1927, in Marion County, the son of Effie Alyea Robuck and James Cleo Mart. He graduated from Knoxville High School. He served in the Navy during World War II.
He was united in marriage to Alberta Jean Finarty on October 12, 1947.
He worked for 32 years at the VA Medical Center in Knoxville. He also worked as a self-employed carpenter and farmer. He was a member of the American Legion Post #168 in Knoxville and the First United Methodist Church.
Mr. Mart had lived in Knoxville all his life.
James Norman Mart, 72, of Knoxville died of cancer Tuesday, October 5, 1999, at home. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Williams Funeral Home in Knoxville, with burial at Graceland Cemetery there.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his wife, Alberta; four daughters, Carol Robbins of Aurora, Colo., Janet Mott and Linda Des Camps, both of Knoxville, and Jean Mc Cormick of Pleasantville; a sister, Beverly Westman of Russell; two brothers, Marion of Cleveland, Texas, and Jerry of Knoxville; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Pastor Robert B. Ward officiated at the services. Music was provided by Linda Gehling, organist, and Steve McBride, vocalist. Pallbearers were Rocky Agan, Danny Harvey, Jason Mart, Tab Mart, Brad Patty, and Randy Westman.
