Jack Frederick Dahlin of Silver Springs, Maryland died Jan. 10, 2001 at Alexandria Hospital in Alexandria, VA after suffering a heart attack at the age of 66.

He was born July 23, 1935, in Davenport, Iowa, the son of Noren and Wanda Dahlin, and was raised there and in Knoxville. He
graduated from Knoxville High School in 1953. He was an electrical engineering graduate
of George Washington University. Mr. Dahlin was an Army Department computer programmer
and worked at the Hoffman Building in Alexandria, VA. He had been a civilian employee
of the Army for about two years.

Earlier, he was self-employed for more than 10
years after working as a computer programmer at the Naval Surface Warfare Center
White Oak in Silver Spring for 18 years until 1976. An Air Force veteran, he was
a past commander of an American Legion Post in Brookville, MD.

In the 1970's and
80's, he coached youth football and softball at the Silver Spring Boys Club, was
a Boy Scout troop scoutmaster and was active in the Northwood High School Football
Booster Club in Silver Spring. He was a past trustee and 12 year member of Marvin
Memorial United Methodist Church in Silver Spring, Maryland.

He is survived by his wife of
42 years, Joan Gerhart Dahlin of Silver Spring; two sons: Fritz Dahlin of Columbia,
MD and Stephen Dahlin of Poolesville, MD; three sisters: Suzanne (James) Merna of Lanham, Md.; Deborah Ann Dahlin of Warrenville,Il and Jane (Robert) Danico of Davenport, Iowa; uncle David Dahlin of Eldridge, Iowa; and several nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Noren and Wanda Dahlin of Wheaton and one niece Catherine A. Merna.
