Ivan McVey

Return to Class of 1921

Ivan 08/17/1939
Henry McVey, son of J.L. and Nettie McVey, was born June 13, 1899, and died in the hospital at Pleasantville, Thursday, August 17,1939, at the age of forty years, 2 months and 4 days.

He was born near Lovilla, Iowa, and a short time later moved to Columbia, Iowa, where he lived for several years.

In the year 1913 the family moved to Knoxville, Iowa, where he was reared to manhood. He attended the local school here and graduated from the Knoxville high school in 1921.

He was converted and baptized in the Methodists church in Columbia at the age of ten years, later transferring to the
M. E. church, Knoxville, where he has been a faithful member ever since.

He was married at Oskaloosa, Iowa, June 24, 1925, to Ethel
Imogene Smith, and went to housekeeping in their home on Rock
Island street, where they have lived up to the present time.

Two children came to bless this home: Phyllis Darlene and Richard Dale McVey, who with his wife are left to mourn his passing. Besides his wife and two children he leaves his aged parents and a host of other relatives and friends; two brothers, Walter and Forrest, and one sister, Edith, preceded
him in death.

Ivan McVey was a good a man seldom criticized in any way by his friends. His relatives and friends always spoke of him as a man trying to do his best in every way.

Reared by parents who felt it worth while to give him good religious and moral training, they were well repaid for their pains, as the result has been a good, clean industrious and upright man, and inheritance left to his children that is far better than gold; and to his wife the memory of a kind husband and father who did everything for his family that failing strength could do.
