Services Howard I. Rietveld, 80, Fairfax, and formerly of Knoxville, died March 21, 1985 in a Cedar Rapids Hospital, were held April 3 at Hahen Funeral Home in Cedar Rapids.
Interment was in St. Patrick Cemetery near Fairfax.
Mr. Rietveld was born on March 21, 1905 in Franklin Township, Marion County, the son of John J. and Mary Schmidt Rietveld.
He graduated from Knoxville High School in 1926 and attended Iowa State College receiving both his B.S. and later his Master’s degrees.
Following his fathers death in 1929, he farmed the home place for a number of years, after which he moved to northern Iowa and taught vocational agriculture in various towns.
In 1931, he married Thelma Maddy of Knoxville. To this union, one son was born.
In 1966, he retired from teaching and moved to Fairfax where he
married Mary Ellen Bowles.
He is survived by his wife; one son, and five grandchildren; three great grandchildren, and one sister, Mrs. Brownie (Inez) Hudson of Knoxville.
