A Mass of Christian Burial for Howard Lee Pitt, 70, of Knoxville, who died August 29, at the Knoxville Area Community Hospital, were held September 2, 1998, at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Knoxville.

Burial was at Greenwood Cemetery in Marion County. Military honors were accorded by VFW John Myers. Post #3519, and American Legion Baty-Tucker Post #168.
The Rev. Thomas Parlette served
as celebrant.

Music was provided by Jim Kidder, organist, and the St. Anthony Choir. Pallbearers were John Hess, Bill Hatch, Brian Hatch, Christopher Pitt, Eric Hatch, Mike Hatch, and Howard Potter.

Howard was born October 11, 1927, the son of Robert and Elizabeth Clark Pitt.

He was raised in the Knoxville area and attended school there. He worked in Des Moines sewing Army hospital tents.

He was united in marriage to Lucille Miller on November 24, 1945, in Rosemont. The couple moved to California in 1945, where he served in the U.S. Navy. They returned to Knoxville after his honorable discharge in 1947.

He drove a truck for Beard's Gravel Pit, then worked at the VA Hospital from 1949 until his retirement in 1992.

Throughout the years, he also worked for Knoxville Building & Supply Lumber Yard, and built houses for An Haning. He was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church, VFW John Myers Post #3519, and the American Legion Baty-Tucker Post #168.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Vera Sutherland; and a brother, Kenneth.

He is survived by his wife; three daughters, Kathy Hess and Carolyn Hatch, both of Knoxville, and Patty Miller of Carlisle; a son, Dennis of Knoxville; two brothers,

Robert and Gene, both, of Knoxville; three sisters, Hazel Wright and Helen Spaur, both of Knoxville, and Hilda Klootwyk of Tucson, Ariz.; nine grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.
Arrangements were made by Bybee and Davis Funeral Home in Knoxville.
