A Mass of Christian Burial for Herbert Arnold McCoy, 80, of Knoxville, who died August 29, 1998, at the Knoxville Area Community Hospital, were held September 1, 1998, at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Knoxville. Burial was at Graceland Cemetery in Knoxville.
The Rev. Thomas Parlette served as celebrant. Music was provided by Pam Janousek, pianist, and the St. Anthony Choir. Pallbearers were Jim Colwell, Dave Kalsem, Darwin Damon, Reed Smith, Elmer Jordan, and Frank Dugger
Arnold was born June 22, 1918, in rural Knoxville, the son of Herbert D. and Carrie Dear McCoy. He was raised on the family farm, and graduated from Knoxville High School in 1937.
He was united in marriage to Mary Bernice Stickle on March 9, 1943, in Knoxville. The couple farmed south of Knoxville for nine years, then moved to their present farm near Melcher-Dallas. In the last 12 years, he has restored tractors, and has attended numerous shows and parades, and was featured in Successful Farming magazine. He was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church, the Farm Bureau, and Central Hawkeye Gas Engine and Tractor Association.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife; two sons, James of rural Melcher-Dallas, and John of Knoxville; a daughter, Mary Margaret Malanson of Iowa City; and four grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to St. Anthony's Catholic Church, and Hospice of Central Iowa.
