Helen Janet Carpenter-Moon was born on August 24, 1913 in Knoxville, Iowa the daughter of Amos and Ora E. (Bellamy) Jones.
She was raised in Knoxville and graduated with the Knoxville High School class of 1930. As a young woman, she worked for Grant Ice Company as a collector.
On September 18, 1932 she was united in marriage to Jack Carpenter, and she spent the next years raising her two daughters.
Helen worked for the Draft Board for five years and for Farm Bureau.
In 1946 she started work for Bybee & Davis Furniture Store staying for about 16 years, and owned the store for the last 2 years.
In 1962 she went to work at the V. A. Hospital as a secretary and retired in 1980.
On October 31, 1986 she married Rubert Moon. Helen and Rubert enjoyed 14 wonderful years together. She was a member of the First United Methodist
Church and the Mary Circle and had been a superintendent of the primary department of Sunday School.
Helen was also a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees, the Golden Oldies Kitchen Band, and a 70 year member of the Order
of the Eastern Star Chapter No. 85. She had held all the offices in Eastern Star and had served as a Grand Officer, and instructor.
She was also a Mother advisor for the Rainbow Girls. In 1987 she was named Beta Sigma Phi Woman of the Year.
Helen passed away on Sunday, May 27, 2001 at the Knoxville Area Community Hospital at the age of 87 years, 9 months and 3 days.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Jack in 1981; two brothers: Cary and Vern Jones, and four
sisters, Beulah Hayes, Etha Hayes, Edith Rickett and Adelaide Pakitsos.
Those left to honor her memory include her husband Rubert of Knoxville, two daughters; Beverly Christofferson and husband Marc of Sioux City, Iowa, Sharon Curtis of La Crosse,
Wisconsin, two grandchildren; Aaron Curtis of La Crosse, Wisconsin, Kirstin Semler of Iowa City, Iowa and many other family members and friends.
