Lena Hazel Kendrick Crouch, daughter of R.I. and Belle Purman Kendrick, was born on a farm near Attica, Iowa, on October 31, 1899, and died at her home in Knoxville, on November 13, 1935, at the age of 36 years and 18 days.
In her early childhood, she attended the rural schools of the county, later graduating from the local high school.
She attended Penn College in Oskaloosa and later taught in the rural schools of the county for a period of three years. She was an accomplished musician.
She united with the Christian church at Knoxville during the pastorate of W.H. Sandy. She was also a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the American Legion.
She was united in marriage to Lee Crouch, on August 18, 1920, and to this union were born five children. Geno, Jack, Dicksie, Mary, and Jerry, will be deprived of the loving care of a devoted mother.
She also leaves her husband, her mother, Mrs. Belle Kendrick, three brothers, Forrest, Dalmar, and Faryl Kendrick, all of this vicinity, besides a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were conducted by Rev. L.R. Putman of Ottumwa, at the local Christian church, Friday afternoon.
A large number of friends and relatives attended the services, many of them being present from Monroe, Attica, Oskaloosa, Tracy, Boone, Ottumwa, Hartford, and Pella.
Interment in Zion cemetery.
