Services for Francis M. (Shorty) Hulgan, 56, of Ankeny and formerly of Knoxville, who died April 14, 1986 at Mercy Hospital Medical Center in Des Moines of cancer, were held April 17 at Our Lady's Immaculate Heart Church in Ankeny, Ankeny Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Interment was in Greenwood Cemetery, Knoxville.
Pallbearers were James Boies, Jeffery Doehrmann, James A. and Steven Hulgan, Aaron Kain and Jack E. Kingery.
Mr. Hulgan was born in Knoxville, the son of William (W.R.) and Pearl Hulgan, and graduated from Knoxville High School.
A retired pipefitter for Firestone Tire and Rubber Co., he had
lived in Bondurant and the Des Moines area for 33 years before moving to Ankeny three years ago.
He was a member of Our Lady's Immaculate Heart Catholic Church, United Rubber Workers of America,
Local 310 AFL-CIO, and the rescue unit at Knoxville Raceway.
He was preceded in death by his father and his first wife, the former Charlene Kingery.
He is survived by his wife Dorothy ; one son, Charles R. of Des Moines; three stepsons, Greg and Paul Moon, both of Des Moines, and Doug Moon of Ankeny; two stepdaughters, Linda Anderson and Sherri Wulf, both of Des Moines; One foster daughter, Patty Plummer of Des Moines; his mother of Knoxville; two brothers, James of Fort Dodge and Richard of Altooona; two step-grandchildren; and two foster grandchildren.
A memorial has been established to Mercy Hospital Medical Center Hospice.
