Ely Walker Leuty passed away on July 3, 1998, at Orlando's Florida Hospital where he was
being treated for lung disease.

A memorial service was held in Orlando on July 8,
with a service in Knoxville, Iowa on July 18 at Evans McCleery Funeral Home with
Rev. Giles Card officiating. Interment was in the Leuty Plot at Graceland Cemetery.

Ely was born December 14, 1910 in Knoxville, Iowa to Lois (Harkin) and Walker Stanton
Leuty. He was the youngest of nine children, three of whom died in infancy. Ely's
father operated a general merchandise store in Percy until 1910 when the family
moved to Knoxville.

Ely's grandparents, Mary (Benson) and William Leuty, were two
of the early pioneers to settle in Marion County arriving in 1843. He graduated
from Knoxville High School in 1929. During World War II he was a medical corpsman
in the U.S. Army, from which he was honorably discharged.

Ely settled in Georgia
in the 1940s and married Kay Barnett in 1948. The couple did not have any children
and Mrs. Leuty died in 1983. He was engaged in several businesses, including many
years of retail auto sales.

He retired from McKellar-Braun Cadillac in Orlando,
Florida, where he resided for more than 30 years. Following his retirement, he enjoyed
traveling, including trips to Brazil, England and South Africa.

Survivors include
eight nieces and nephews: Bill Hardin of Knoxville; Ruth Shoop of Pleasantville;
Kay Beem of West Des Moines; Jean Gasper of Newton; Patsy Sadler and Leuty Schreiner,
both of Pella; Pat Pfeifer, Papillion, Nebraska; and Connie Lee, Mission Viejo,
California.

Evans McCleery Funeral Home in Knoxville was in charge of local arrangements.
