Edna Ruth (Bane) Smith, 83, of 7316 College Ave. died Wednesday, September 16, 1987, at Mercy Hospital Medical Center of complications following colon surgery.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at McLaren’s Resthaven Chapel, with burial in Resthaven Cemetery in West Des Moines.

Mrs. Smith was born in Marion County December 4, 1903 the daughter of Walter Bane and Mary Clark.

She had lived in Des Moines since 1944. She retired in 1971 as an abstractor with Peoples Abstract Co. and she had been a member of P.E.O. Chapter J.M. and order of the Eastern Star of Heather Hill Chapter No 493.

Survivors include her husband, Chandos C; a son, Chandos C. Jr. of Portland, Ore; a daughter, Cheryl A. Stansell of Neosho, Mo; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral chapel.
