Services for Philip E. Barbour, 66, of Des Moines and formerly of Knoxville, who died of cancer Aug. 23, 1987 at his home, were held Aug. 26 at Grandview Funeral Home in Des Moines.
Interment was in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Des Moines.
Rev. John Beebout officiated at the services. Music was provided by John Wichael, organist, and L.E. Hill, soloist.
Pallbearers were Bill and Larry Rowland, Steve Mallary, Skip Bachman, Gary Davis, and Burl Schermerhon. Mr. Barbour was born Sept. 5, 1920 at Melcher, the son of Alex and Elizabeth Anthony Barbour. Spending his early years in Melcher, he moved to Knoxville in 1936 and graduated from Knoxville High School in 1938.
On April 4, 1942, he married Levohn Beard at Lancaster, Mo.
Retiring in 1985, Ile had moved to Des Moines in 1963 where he was employed as a truck driver by F.R. Anderson Contract Carrier and Paper Contractors.
He was a veteran of World War II and a member of the VFW.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, John Thomas.
He is survived survived by his wife; one son, Michael of Phoenix, Ariz.; one daughter, Cheryl Rowland of Knoxville; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one brother, Alex (Hap) of Des Moines; three sisters, Anna Koopman of Knoxville; Bessie Jones of Litchville, Ill., and Gwen Jones of Wilsonville, Ill.; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial has been established to the American Cancer Fund.
