Dorothy Jean (Brown) Haynie was born December 1, 1928, in Knoxville, Iowa, the daughter of
Arvid R. Brown and Helen Hyer Brown.
Dorothy attended elementary school in Knoxville
and graduated from KHS with the class of 1946. Following graduation, Dorothy attended
Airline School in Kansas City, MO but later found there were no jobs available.
On April 26, 1949, she enlisted in the United States Air Force. She was stationed
in Las Cruces, NM, and worked in the weather station. This is where she met Airman
Robert G. Haynie.
On May 3, 1950, Dorothy and Robert were married in Carlsbad, New
Mexico. To this union, a daughter was born. In 1953 the family moved to Hunstanton,
England where a son was born. In 1956 Dorothy and the kids moved back to Knoxville.
Dorothy worked for Bellamy Telephone Company/Contel from 1957 to 1987 where she
worked on the main frame and then later in the office area.
Dorothy passed away on Thursday,
October 15, 2009, at Pleasant Care Living Center in Pleasantville at the age of 80 years, 10 months, and 14 days.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a grandson,
Bradley Troendle. She is survived by her daughter, Carol (Dave) Troendle of Knoxville,
her son, Bob Haynie of Des Moines, and a grandchild, Scott Troendle of Knoxville.
