A native of Knoxville, the Very Rev. Msgr. John Donald Conway, 61, a columnist for 53 Catholic newspapers and pastor of St. Mary's church at Davenport, died of a heart attack at the church on Feb. 5, 1967.
He was born and raised on a farm northwest of Knoxville and graduated from Knoxville High School in 1922. He was a graduate of St. Ambrose College at Davenport and had studied canon law at Gregorian University in Rome, Italy, where he received the equivalent of a doctor of philosophy degree.
Conway had been director of the Catholic Student Center at the University of Iowa and chancellor of the Davenport Diocese, and was the author of several books.
Funeral services and interment were at Davenport. Survivors include a number of cousins in the Knoxville area.
