Funeral services for David Larry Brooks, 53, of Knoxville, who died Sunday, February 11, 2001 at the Knoxville Area Community Hospital, were held on Wednesday at First United Methodist Church in Knoxville. Elder Sam Nichols and Rev. Peter J. Peterson officiated at the services.

Music was provided by organist Jim Kidder and vocalist Katie Davis.

Interment was at Graceland Cemetery. Casket bearers Jim Ellis, Dick Reed, Don Darnell, Steve Hatch, Jim Darnell, and Gordon Mecham.

Honorary casket bearers were Pat Moss, Dennis Goad, Gary Cowman, Al Foster, Bob Graves, and Hubert Clark.

Dave was born on August 2, 1947, in Oskaloosa, to Jessie Merle Brooks and Merna Bernita (Sinnard) Brooks.

He was raised in Knoxville and graduated with the class of 1966. He worked in farming at the Bingley Sale Barn as a young man.

In 1972, he began working for the city of Knoxville. He married Stephanie Sue Harvey on October 12, 1979, at the First United Methodist Church in Knoxville.

Dave was Superintendent of the Knoxville Parks and Cemetery until retiring in 1995 due to ill health; he also served on the Knoxville Fire Department from 1971 to 1993 and on the Raceway Fire & Rescue crew until 1987.

He was a dedicated worker and volunteer for the city of Knoxville. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church.

He enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing, and sprint car racing. He was a dedicated husband and father and he cherished the time he spent with his family. His parents preceded him in death.

He is survived by his wife, Stephanie of Knoxville, three daughters, Kimberly, Sally, and Amy Brooks all of Knoxville, two sisters and brothers-in-law, Sandra and Norman Chrisman, Connie and Don Johnson all of Knoxville; one brother and sister-in-law, Charles and Carolan Brooks of Knoxville, and many other family members and friends.

Memorials may be made to the Knoxville Fire Department. Arrangements were made by Bybee & Davis Funeral Home.
