David Robert McKinney was born August 5, 1941, in Wayne County, Iowa the son of Robert and Pauline (Abel) McKinney.

Dave was raised in southern Iowa until his family moved to Marion County, Iowa. He attended country schools and Knoxville High School with the Class of 1960.

As a young man, Dave worked several jobs including the overall factory in Knoxville and Maytag in Newton.

On November 17, 1961, he was united in marriage to Eldred Marconi at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Knoxville. The couple made their home in Pershing.

In April of 1966, Dave took a job on the Marion County Road Crew. He worked for the county until his retirement from the Marion County Engineer’s Office.

During his retirement years, Dave was a road inspector and weed commissioner for Marion County. He later drove the HIRTA bus and worked for Bybee & Davis Funeral Home.

Dave was a devoted family man, never missing a family event or reunion. To know Dave was to love him; a good natured, kindhearted gentleman with an excellent sense of humor.

He didn’t know a stranger, often having lengthy conversations with strangers. He enjoyed telling stories, especially at morning coffee gatherings at McDonalds.

He will be remembered as a devoted family man and friend.

Dave passed away Friday, February 16, 2024, at his home, in Pershing, at the age of 82 years.David McKInney
He was preceded in death by his parent’s, daughter Julie, and siblings: Jim, Pat, Vicki, Ronnie, Joyce, and Mike.

Those left to honor Dave’s memory include his wife, Eldred; daughter, Mary; son Dave (Lela); granddaughter, Elly (Jamison) Hatcher; great-grandchildren, Harrison, and Daxton; siblings: Jerry McKinney of Knoxville and Carol Evans and Brenda Lewis both of Oskaloosa and many other family members and friends.
