Darus Lee Smith, youngest son of Earl Austin Smith and Mina Mae Spaur, was born
near Knoxville, Iowa, on October 12, 1928.

He passed from this life on December
30, 1963 at his farm home near Garden Grove, Iowa, from accidental gun shot wounds
suffered while going down an icy driveway to the barn to shoot an animal that was
after his chickens and livestock.

Darus died at the age of 35 years, 2 months and
18 days.

He was united in marriage to Mary Jane Angstead, on October 30, 1949 at the
Methodist Parsonage at Chariton.

To this union were born five children, one son,
Darus Mahlon 13. and four daughters, Marsha Jane 10, Nancy Elaine 8, Melody Lorraine
5, and Melinda Fay 3.

Besides his wife and children, Darus is survived by his father
and mother, one brother, the Rev. H. LaVern Smith of Moravia. and one sister, Mrs.
LaNell Rowland of Columbia, five nephews, four nieces and many other relatives.

Services were held from the Church of the Nazarene with the Rev. J. C. Leonard and
the Rev. Homer Max officiating. Miley Funeral home was in charge of arrangements
and interment was at the Gosport cemetery, south of Knoxville.
