Claudine (Scott) Williams was born on June 6, 1918, in Gravity.
She was the second of five children born to Ruby Chloe McFarland and Thomas Andrew Scott. The family lived in various communities in Iowa and Colorado before settling in Indianola.
In 1934, the family moved to Knoxville. Claudine graduated from Knoxville High School in 1935. It was during her high school years that Claudine met the love of her life, Clyde Williams. They were united in marriage on Nov. 10, 1940, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. They had two children.
Claudine and Clyde started Williams Funeral Home in May 1955. They worked together for over 40 years. Claudine was active in the Eastern Star, Knoxville Federated Study Club, and Chapter M, PEO. Claudine was a 50-year member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority.
She was also a member of the First United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women.
Claudine helped for many years with the holiday bazaar and decorating the sanctuary altar. Claudine’s family was the center of her life. She worked with various youth groups when the children were growing up. Claudine was a talented artist and seamstress. She made beautiful quilts for the family as well as sewn and painted crafts.
Everyone enjoyed Claudine’s peanut brittle and divinity. Claudine and Clyde spent 26 winters in Sarasota, Fla. She loved riding her three-wheeled bike as well as participating in all the trips, parties, and other activities in the retirement community.
Claudine Scott Williams passed away on Dec. 7 at the age of 87.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one son, Bruce on May 21, 1979, and one sister,
Jenny Hester and one brother, Tom Scott.
Survivors include her husband of 65 years, Clyde of Knoxville; one daughter and her fiancé, Ginger Ferguson, and Cecil Harry of Knoxville; one granddaughter and her husband, Kirstin and Luke Muran of St. Louis, Mo.; one grandson, Zachary Ferguson of Chicago, Ill., and two sisters, Mildred Dickerson of Knoxville and Barbara Sullivan of Pella.
Funeral services were held on Dec. 10 with interment in Graceland Cemetery.
Memorials may be made in memory of Mrs. Williams to the Knoxville Public Library.
