Clarence Forrest Miers,88, passed away Jan. 30, 1989 at the Westridge Manor Nursing
Home in Knoxville. Services were held Feb. 2 at the Bybee and Davis Funeral Home
with Rev. K. Wayne Hoehns officiating. Music was provided by organist James Kidder
and vocalist Richard Hunt. Interment was at the Graceland Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Howard Hunt, Jesse Brooks, Don Neifert, Don Dixon, RN. Moon, and
Perry John- son. Honorary bearers were Herman Veenstra, Charles Bacus, Kenneth Hayes,
and Bob Sills.
Clarence Forrest Miers was born on July 4, 1900 in Knoxville to Joseph F. and Lulu
Smith Miers.
He graduated from Knoxville High School in 1921 and later that year started his
employment with Bybee and Davis Funeral Home and Furniture Company. He was associated
with the firm for 57 years, first as an employee and later as a partner with Don
Whitlatch.
Clarence and Don operated the firm from the early at which time the business
was sold to Jerry Zager sale he remained active with the firm and was honored by
the Iowa State Funeral Directors Association for his fifty years of service to his
profession.
He was married to Ethel Curtis on Nov. 2, 1921. Clarence was an excellent woodworker
and he enjoyed repairing antiques and making clocks.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, 1.9.0.F. Lodge No. 90 of Knoxville
for over fifty years.
Preceding him in death were his parents, one brother Ancil and two sisters Esther
and Velta.
Surviving are his wife Ethel, one son Eldon of Des Moines, two daughters Lois Peters
of Marshalltown and Mildred Gross Snyder of Vero Beach, Florida.
Also surviving are four grandchildren, eight great- grandchildren, and one 1 great-great-grandson,
and his sister Hazel Harvey of Pella.
Memorials have been designated to the First United Methodist Church or the I.O.O.F.
Lodge No. 90 of Knoxville.
