Chester ‘Chet OSWANDEL, 85, of Loveland, died June 22, 2009.
He was born March 23, 1924, in Knoxville, Iowa, to Leslie and Ella Maye (Jones) Oswandel.
He grew up in Knoxville and graduated high school in 1942. He moved to Montana for work building airplane runways. He was drafted into the U.S. Naval Air Corps to serve during World War II. He witnessed the takeoff of Enola Gay (B-29), Hiroshima Mission. After his honorable discharge he joined his parents in Loveland.
He married Hilda Mae Hergenreder and they had four daughters.

After her death, he married Lorraine Abbott in Loveland. He was a life member of disabled vets and was involved in the relocation of camp No. 202 (German prisoner camp building) which is now the Associated Veterans Club.

He also belonged to American Legion, Sons of American Legion, and was a longtime volunteer for Boy Scouts of America. He loved his family and enjoyed woodworking, coin collecting, and was a past master of roller skating.

He is survived by his loving wife, Lorraine Oswandel, Loveland; son, Anthony Dale Abbott (Cathy), Loveland; daughters, Cheryl Lynn Rich, North Carolina, Pamela Sue Johnson (Charles) and Donna Jean Moore (Ken), both of Loveland, Debra June Griffin, Broomfield and Misty Marie West, Westminster; brothers, Verlin Oswandel (Carolyn), Englewood, Dwight Oswandel (Kay), Arvada; sisters, Wilma Haning, Reno, Nev., Maxine Zimbelman (Merlyn), Loveland; nine grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren, as well as five step-grandchildren and 17 step-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and first wife, Hilda, sisters, Mildred Frazzini and Vivien Booth, two sons, Michael Alan Abbott and Douglas Dean Abbott.
A memorial service will be held 10 a.m. Friday at Viegut Funeral Home.
Inurnment with full military honors at Resthaven Memory Gardens, Fort Collins. A reception following the graveside at Associated Veterans Club.
Memorial contributions may be made to Boy Scouts or Pathways Hospice in care of Viegut Funeral Home.
