SIOUX CITY — Beverly Sue (Carpenter) Christofferson, 75, of Sioux City passed away Tuesday, June 23, 2009, at Sunrise Retirement Community.
A private burial was held Thursday in Graceland Park Cemetery. A celebration of life will be 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at the Siouxland Center for Active Generations, 313 Cook Street in Sioux City.
Arrangements are under the direction of Waterbury Funeral Service.
Beverly was born July 17, 1933, in Knoxville, Iowa, to Helen and Jack Carpenter. She moved to Sioux City in 1969. She taught English, speech and interpersonal communications at Western Iowa Tech Community College from 1976 to 2002. Prior to 1969, she taught at several high schools, a private school for boys in Massachusetts and in several colleges, including Ferris State and the University of Northern Iowa.
In her early life, she had a strong interest in theater and performed in various university and community theaters.
She loved reading and cooking. She collected cookbooks. She published her own cookbook in 2001 and updated it in 2008. Beverly never saw a cat she didn’t love. She enjoyed crossword puzzles and word games.
She is survived by her husband, Marc Christofferson; stepsons, Andrew Christofferson and his wife, Gena and Michael Christofferson and his wife, Sarah.
She is also survived by her grandchildren and a sister.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
