Services for Charles Hubert "Popey" Pope, 81, of Knoxville, who passed away at his home on Sept. 13, 1991, were held Sept. 16, at St. Anthony's Catholic Church. Arrangements were handled by Evans-McCleery Funeral Home.
Interment was in Graceland Cemetery.

Rev. Philip Cardenzana officiated at the services. Music was provided by Sister Roberta Klesener and Stephen Waters.
Pallbearers were Daniel Abens, David Abens, Richard Pope, Douglas Abens, Dennis Abens and Darren Abens.

Charles was born on Feb. 20, 1910, on a farm south of Knoxville, the son of James and Lucinda Hummel Pope. He graduated from Knoxville High School in 1929.

Charles married Esther Jones on March 20, 1933, in Unionville, Mo. A life-long resident of Marion County, Charles was retired from the Marion County Road Department. He was also a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Knoxville.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Forrest; and one sister, Helen Wagoner.

He is survived by his wife of Knoxville; two daughters, Mrs. Ted J. (Angelene) Kappes of Eagle Grove, and Mrs. Donald (Dolores) Abens of Knoxville; one sister, Wilma Reipe of Bettendorf; ten grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren, and many other relatives and friends.

Memorial contributions may be made to Marion County Hospice.
