Funeral services for Carroll Johnson, 87, of Knoxville, who died on Friday, April
13, 2001, at Knoxville Area Community Hospital, were held on Tuesday, April 17,
at First United Methodist Church.

Rev. Peter J. Peterson officiated at the services.
Eulogy was by Mike Lane. Music was provided by Katie Davis, soloist and Linda Gehling,
organist. Interment was at Graceland Cemetery in Knoxville. Casket bearers were
Jay and Chad Nelson and Adam, Brett, Andy and Jim Johnson. Honorary casket bearers
were Mike Lane, Jerry Jordan, George Andrews, Don Rodgers, Marvin Gilliland and
Doron Rasmussen.

Carroll was born on September 18, 1913 in Des Moines. He was the
son of J. H. and Pearl (Eastburn) Johnson. He lived in Knoxville much of his life
and graduated from Knoxville High School in 1930. He then attended the University
of Chicago and received a B.A. degree in 1934 and graduated cum laude with a law
degree from the University of Chicago in 1936.

He married Edna Stone in 1940. After
serving three terms in the Iowa legislature, he joined the FBI during World War
II, where he was stationed in San Francisco and Portland, Ore. He returned to Knoxville
to practice law with his father, and dedicated over 50 years to his profession.
He was a member of the Iowa Bar Association and served four years on the Board of
Governors.

He was actively involved in community service, culminating in the honor
of receiving the 1977 Chamber of Commerce Community Service Award. Through the years
he served in numerous capacities for 60 years in the United Methodist Church, was
past president and 50 year member of the Rotary Club and host for a Rotary exchange student.

Carroll and his wife, Edna, were a Rotary exchange couple to Sweden. He
was also a leader in Boy Scout activities, encouraging both of his sons to become
Eagle Scouts. He served on the Board of Directors of Community National/Brenton
Bank and the Knoxville Library Board for many years. He was actively, involved in
the Republican Party, serving as County Chairman for several years.
