Carrie Kay (Husted) Lee went to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, January 27th.
She was born on August 14th, 1939 in Des Moines, Iowa to Virgil and Maxine (Williams) Husted.
Although she loved her mom dearly, Carrie was clearly a daddy’s girl. When she spoke about her dad the love, admiration, and respect she held for him showed in her face and was heard in her voice. She had fond memories of growing up in Knoxville, Iowa and went back to visit several times. The friendships she made there and the town itself held a special place in her heart.
Carrie attended Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri for two years where she enjoyed modeling and horseback riding. She transferred to Miami University to complete her degree in Psychology. While attending Miami University, she met and later married John D. Burroughs, Jr. Although the marriage ended in divorce; she would say her biggest blessings came out of it – her daughters Kelly and Christy.
Despite being a single mom, Carrie religiously saved the money she made leasing condos in Florida to eventually move herself and her daughters to Friendswood, Texas – closer to her beloved sister, Angelica. Until the day she passed away, her and Angie spoke on the phone weekly.
The role she loved most in her life was becoming a Mimi to her four grandchildren – Zachary, Savannah, Brock, and Emma. Even when she was working full time, she spent most of her free time with her grandchildren. Mimi was at every sporting event, dance recital, awards ceremony, etc. Anytime she could cheer her grandchildren on or make them feel special by attending an event, she was there. Her grandchildren loved her back and were always glad that Mimi came on every family vacation each summer. Mimi was down for any adventure, as long as her hair didn’t get wet or messed up!
Carrie loved to shop and you could tell by her color coordinated outfits from head to toe. She always looked adorable where ever she went. Her daughters would joke that they were invisible when they were with her because strangers would gravitate towards Carrie and give her compliments. She was always being told how beautiful she was.
Although she remained single, she had a wonderful group of lady friends from Sagemont Church. Her social calendar was always full of fun things to do with her dear friends.
Carrie is preceded in death by her dad and mom. She leaves behind her sister, Angelica Deveny, her daughters Kelly (Tony) Nolin and Christy (Kevin) Sweeney and the four lights of her life Zachary and Brock Nolin and Savannah and Emma Sweeney.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to Sagemont Church.
The visitation will be held at Peevey Funeral Home Saturday, February 3rd, from 2:30pm. until 3:00pm., the memorial service will follow at 3:00pm.
