Carl Leslie McElrea, 59, 1735 Clay, was dead on arrival at a Topeka hospital Monday. He had had a heart disease.

Mr. McElrea was born August 9, 1909, in Knoxville, Iowa. He had lived in Topeka from 1931 to 1942 when he was a mechanical engineer for Gas Service Co. He left Topeka to work with the Warsix Wax Co. and later for Oilfield Research Co., both in Chanute.

In 1961, he returned to Topeka and was with the Chief Projects Design Branch of Forbes Air Force Base until his death.

He was a member of the Holy Name Church, Toeka, and Chanute Elks Lodge No. 806. He was graduated from Iowa State University School of Engineering in 1927.

Survivors include his wife, Mary B. McElrea, of the home, and five nieces and nephews of Lakewood, Calif.

Services will be Thursday morning at St. Francis Church, St. Paul, Kan. Rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in the church. Burial will be in St. Francis Cemetery, St. Paul. Brennan Funeral Home is in charge of Topeka arrangements.
