Bonnie Jean (Nichols) Grunhaupt, 90, of Brooklyn and formerly of Grinnell, died on Monday, April 11, 2016, at the Brooklyn Estates in Brooklyn, Iowa
A funeral service was held Thursday, April 14, at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell with Rev. David Crow, pastor of the United Methodist Church in Grinnell, officiating. Burial will be at Hazelwood Cemetery in Grinnell.
Friends called at the Smith Funeral Home on Wednesday and the family was present at the funeral home Wednesday evening.
Memorials be directed to the Poweshiek County Fair Association and sent in care of the Smith Funeral Home, P.O. Box 368, Grinnell, Iowa 50112.
Bonnie was born on May 23, 1925, in Knoxville, Iowa to Robert and Tunnie Onstank Nichols.
She was raised in Knoxville and graduated with the Class of 1942 from Knoxville High School. She received her teaching certificate from Simpson College in Indianola and following her education she taught in rural schools.
On January 1, 1952, she was married to Walter Purly Grunhaupt in Knoxville. The couple farmed near Newton and moved to Grinnell in 1963. She was a homemaker and mother of two children, Linda and Don.
Bonnie was a member of the United Methodist Church in Grinnell and the Chester Royal Grange. She enjoyed quilting, camping, raising flowers, camping at the Iowa State Fair, and volunteering at Second Mile.
Survivors include her daughter, Linda (Larry) Iverson of Montezuma, Iowa; her son, Don (Jolene) Grunhaupt of Crookston, Nebraska; four grandchildren, Laurie Iverson, Chris (Cara) Iverson, Tyrel (Robin) Grunhaupt and Seth (Chelsea) Grunhaupt; two great-grandchildren, Zane and Brielle Iverson; one sister, Joan Carson of Newton, Iowa; and one brother, Tom (Swaney) Nichols of Tracy, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; and two sisters, Louise Work and Pat Buttrey.
