Beverly Jean Mooney peacefully passed away of natural causes at her home in Monticello, MN on May 16, 2020, at the age of 86.
Bev was born October 17, 1933, in Knoxville, Iowa as the youngest of 4 children born to Fred and Ethel Godfrey. She was raised in Knoxville and enjoyed youth sports of softball and basketball.
Bev was known as the class artist and graduated from Knoxville High School in 1951. Following graduation, she moved to Des Moines and was a secretary at Northwestern Bell.
In 1953 she married John Mooney. The couple lived in Iowa until 1968 when the family moved to Minneapolis. Bev raised 7 children and was a homemaker for many years. She then worked as a Prudential underwriter, School District 281 Substitute Coordinator, and realtor.
Throughout her life, she volunteered in several capacities including scout leader, religion teacher, and PTA board member. She was a recipient of the WCCO Good Neighbor Award. Bev had a heart for non-profit organizations that served people with low income and special needs.
She assisted her longtime friend Sister Jean Thuerauf of Mercy Missionaries in creating the Cookie Cart where she served as a longstanding board member. She devoted herself in service as a longtime board member to Wingspan Life Resources, a non-profit organization that provided care services to her special-needs daughter, Kathleen, for many years.
She enjoyed poetry, book club, traveling, creating artwork for her grandchildren, and several friendships throughout the years.
She was preceded in death by her husband John, daughter Kathleen, granddaughter Brittany Greener, parents Fred and Ethel Godfrey, and siblings Freda Keller and Ted Godfrey.
She is survived by her six children: Mike of Plymouth MN, Patrick (Susan) of Maple Grove MN, Dan (Cathie) of Plymouth MN, Peggy (Dale) Warfield of Rogers MN, Mary (Lonnie) Greener of Foley MN and Mark (Tracy) of Rogers MN as well as nine grandchildren: Jeremy, Joshua, Angela, Annette, Megan, Melissa, Ashley, Benjamin, and Jonathan, nine great-grandchildren and sister Betty Miller.
