Arlene (Jones) Bailey was born August 21, 1924, to Harold Paul and Anna Dana (McClure) Jones in Marion County, Iowa.
Arlene attended Mt. Vernon country school until 8th grade. She then went on to attend Knoxville High School, graduating with
the class of 1941.
Arlene was united in marriage to Thomas Amos Bailey on March 8, 1942, in Princeton, MO. Tom and Arlene bought their first home on South Street in Knoxville when Tom got out of the service in 1945. The two became engaged in farming, owning three farms all in Marion County. Until May 2007, Arlene continued to live on the family farm.
Along with farming, Arlene worked as a legal secretary for Mick & Wilson Law Office for 30 years.
Having a big garden and sharing all the fruits of the land with her children was a joy. Arlene enjoyed cooking a big Sunday
dinner and having fresh baked bread or cinnamon rolls waiting for her family. Homemade noodles, pies, and mashed potatoes were also some of her specialties. She loved playing cards with family and friends. Arlene was a member of the Farm Bureau, V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary, and Greenwood Cemetery Aid and attended the Bessie Spaur luncheons.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Thomas A. Bailey, brother, Earnest R. Jones; sisters, Dorothy Mae Jones in infancy, Mary Margaret Black; daughter, Twinalyn Ann Clark (Twink); granddaughter, Tracy Van Ryswyk; grandson, Kenneth Lindaman.
Arlene passed away on Thursday, February 21, 2008, at the Knoxville Area Community Hospital at the age of 83 years and 6 months. Those left to honor her memory include her children, Alonna Marie Gass (Harry) of Dallas, Jennifer Lynn Bailey (Scott Brockmann of Adel, Tomma Lou Borchert (Lewis) of Altoona, Thomas Amos Bailey II (Lori) of Knoxville; brother, Teddy Mac Jones (Judy) of Torrance, CA; 9 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
