Richard Jordan, age 84, passed away on September 27, 2012 in Boerne, Kendall County, Texas, following several years of suffering Alzheimers.

Born in Columbia, Lucas County, Iowa, on December 29, 1927, he was the son of Rolla Azel and Merle Witt Jordan.

He enlisted in the Navy at the age of 17, serving in China during World War II.

After graduating from Central College in Pella, Iowa, he worked as an actuary for the Farm Bureau in Des Moines, Iowa, then as a Cartographer, civilian employee of the Air Force, at the Defense Mapping Facility in St. Louis, Missouri, retiring after thirty-five years and moving to Dallas, Texas in 1983, then in 1995 to Boerne, Texas.

Preceded in death by his parents and sons, Daniel and Peter.

He survived by his wife of sixty-two years, Elizabeth Miller Jordan; son, Timothy Jordan of Harlingen, Texas; daughter, Julia Jordan Sargent and husband, Dr. Edward Sargent of Fair Oaks Ranch, Texas; three grandsons, Thomas Sargent and wife Theresa of San Antonio, James Sargent and wife, Christeen of Columbus, Ohio, and Jonathan Sargent and wife, Krysta of San Antonio; great-grandson, Skylar Sargent; great- granddaughter, Janessa Mendosa of San Antonio.

His greatest love was his family but flying his Piper Cherokee 180 was his special joy. He belonged to the American Legion, the NRA, the American Cryptogram Association, the Unitarian Church and the Methodist Church.

His hobbies included astronomy, Biblical studies, literature, poetry, music, carpentry, cooking, especially bread baking, genealogy, and solving problems of all kinds.

A private Celebration of Life was held, with a Balloon Release following. He will be missed. Funeral Arrangements entrusted to Vaughan"s Funeral Home of Boerne.
