Mary was born October 17, 1920, in Warren County, the daughter of Clarence W. and Ruby Clara Dhabalt Sockriter. The family moved to Knoxville when she was young.
She graduated from Knoxville High School in 1938.
She was united in marriage to Russell Francis Van Ginkel on June 3, 1939, in Knoxville.
The couple operated several different business in the Knoxville area, including Van Ginkel Hatchery, a Deep Rock and Texaco service stations, and the Park Lane Motel.
They were members of the Knoxville business community for over 30 years. The couple later moved to California. where Mary became assistant executive administrator at St. Marys Hospital. They later moved to Las Vegas, Nev., and returned to Iowa in 1995.
They were residents of the Monroe Care Center since that time. She was a member of St. Anthons Catholic Church, and had been past president of the Rosary and Altar Society. She was also active in Beta Sigma Phi sorority.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother; and a sister.
She is survived by her husband, Francis of Albia; a daughter, Jeanie Winfield of Knoxville; seven grandchildren, and 19 great-grandchildren.
