Marlene Ridlen Butcher, daughter of Charles and Orpha B. Ridlen, was born in Knoxville,
June 20, 1911 and died at Hand Memorial Hospital in Shenandoah, Nov. 30, 1953, a the age of 42
years, 5 months and 10 days.
She was united in marriage to John A. Butcher Oct.,
8, 1938, and one little girl, Dona Dee, deceased, was born to this union.
Her parents, too, preceded her in death, her mother having been taken when Marlene was 15
years of age.
She made her confession at an early age and became a member of the
Christian Church. She resided in Knoxville all her life, until they moved to Shenandoah
two years ago, when Mr. Butcher entered the hardware business there.
Her faculty
for making friends leaves many, who, with her family mourn her passing.
Her interest
in young people was manifest in the Girl Scout troups with which she worked both
in Knoxville and Shenandoah, and in the many little neighborhood friends who brightened
many of her invalid days by their visits and letters.
Her beloved husband, and her
family were constant in their care of her during her long illness, doing all that
loving hands could do to ease her suffering.
Marlene, the youngest of three children,
leaves her husband, John; one sister and one brother and their ie.,Don and Amstacia
Remy, Knoxville and D. and Hazel Ridlen, Davenport; and the beloved niece and nephew,
Avonne Ridlen, Davenport, and Paul Remy, Chicago.
A host of other relatives and
friends share their sorrow.
Funeral services were held at First Christian Church,
Knoxville, Dec. 2, at 1 p.m., conducted by Rev. Stanley Hunt.
Interment was at Graceland
Cemetery.
